I first learned of Elliot Brown when the Sketchy Boyz Watch Club (SBWC) announced their upcoming collab. I immediately dove into the brand and started researching everything I could. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Their mission, shown on their website, is clear:
“We design watches around our outdoor lifestyles and interests, with unique features that allow them to thrive in the harsh environments we and our customers put them into.”
Let me start off by saying besides Seikos and Casios, this is my first big hitter tool watch. It is no surprise that I absolutely love this watch. After receiving it 28 FEB 2026, I have had it on most days since, putting it to the test with a variety of different activities. I won’t dive too deep into the brand, considering it’s no secret our club is a huge fan. I’ll list some things that really stand out to me below and if you want to read more about the history of Elliot Brown, the previous reviews can be found:
The EB Holton Auto GMT 'Black Whiteout' – Sketchy Boyz Watch Club LLC
Elliot Brown prides themselves on being the chosen watch of many professional organizations. These organizations demand rugged, reliable, and legible timepieces when they’re out performing their duties. The decades of experience in watchmaking and extreme sports have truly set the brand up for success. They are upfront with their design process and lengths they go through to make sure they are satisfied before presenting it to their consumers. They spent 2.5 years spitballing before finally pulling the trigger and starting Elliot Brown, which shows in their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and superb customer service. Elliot Brown, in my opinion, has found the perfect balance between performance, affordability, and availability.
Now for the reason you clicked; the Holton Automatic GMT collab with the SBWC. The Holton Professional was launched in 2017 after 2 years of the toughest testing and R&D the brand could get. The Holton became Elliot Brown’s first Government “issued” watch, and became the first ever watch to be designed from the ground up specifically for UK Special Forces. The members of the SBWC come from all different backgrounds, but we derive mostly from military, law enforcement, and government agencies around the world. We at SBWC too demand the best, just as the UK Special Forces did when they approached Elliot Brown for this special project.
Packaging and Initial Presentation
The collab comes in standard Elliot Brown packaging. A cardboard box centered with the Elliot Brown logo; the only marking on it. Upon opening the cardboard box was the Elliot Brown semi-hard zip case. This zip case is reminiscent of the hard cases you receive for your government issued eye protection or various items you would want to keep safe from the elements or everyday drops. The simplicity has a sort of raw, no-bullshit way of saying, “We don’t need a fancy leather box, we let the watch speak for itself.” The perfect case for a tool watch.
When you unzip the case, the watch is securely placed into the foam. The case has a mesh pocket in the lid that holds all of the paperwork that comes with the watch. On both sides of the watch are cutouts in the foam for the bracelet tools. The Holton comes with specialized screw bars and Elliot Brown sells these tools on their website, but they chose to include these in the full kit. This unboxing experience was one of the best I’ve had when it comes to watches. They give you everything you need, with none of the extra fluff to distract you from the true beauty; the watch itself.

The first thing I noticed when lifting the watch from the foam case was its weight. This thing is SOLID. The PVD coating and weight alone let you know that you are handling a real tool. Without wearing it out of the house, I already knew that this thing could take an absolute clobbering and keep on ticking. Elliot Brown applies 0.8 microns of PVD coating to the outside of the 316L stainless case. This is twice the industry standard for PVD coatings and the maximum thickness before you begin to lose definition of the case detailing. The caseback is bolted down with hex bolts, creating the perfect compression seal to adhere to their shock absorption standards.
The bracelet is a titan, just like the case. The same coating all around makes for not only a protective finish, but a smooth, cool feeling when on the wrist. I have a hard time with a lot of bracelets because of my hairy arms. This one has rarely, if ever, pulled at my skin or hair while wearing; at least not bad enough to warrant remembrance. The clasp’s quick adjust gliding feature is the cherry on top. In my opinion if a brand isn’t utilizing this kind of tech in their bracelets, they are falling behind. Bonus touch for the lumed logo on the clasp. Well done Elliot Brown.
The club bespoke blue dial and Elliot Brown’s staple indices, a nod to the dive watches of the 70s, immediately jump out at you. Not in an annoying in your face kind of way, but in a way that draws interest and demands to be respected for the beauty it truly is. 4 o’clock screw down crown, single sided threaded screw bars, a bezel so sharp they brag (unapologetically) that shirt cuffs will not be a fan, and a solid, heavy bracelet. Elliot Brown is not only proving they can keep up with the big dogs, but that they deserve a permanent seat at the table in the tool watch world.
Let’s touch on the knurling of the bezel and crown a little more. When I say sharp, I mean it. It’s not hard to gain any kind of grip when turning either on the watch. The knurled bezel is the exact width of the case, for good reason. This design allows you to rotate the bezel while grasping the sides, and even with a flat palm on top of the watch. Rain, snow, mud, underwater, gloved hands, bare hands; It does not matter. None of these conditions will prevent you from rotating the bezel and utilizing the feature as you see fit. The bezel markings are also laser cut and filled with the same lume that is featured on the dial.
Lume
Need I say more? The bezel is embossed with minute and hour indentations and then absolutely flooded with the same X1 C3 Superluminova that shines on the dial and hands. This thing is a certified lume monster, radiating tinges of that sweet green glow even during the daytime. I constantly get asked at night, and even during the day in lower light conditions, what watch I am wearing because the lume catches the spectator’s eye. I’ve had no issues clearly reading the watch at night even in rainy conditions, which is not only a nod to the lume, but to the beveled sapphire crystal that has an applied anti-reflective coating on the inner surface.
Movement
The NH34. A reliable automatic GMT movement by Seiko. If you’re not new to the SBWC, then you’re no stranger to this movement. The pinnacle of entry level GMT movements features 24 jewels, a ~41hr power reserve, independent GMT hand adjustment, and beats at a smooth 21,600bph. This movement may have lower accuracy than a 9075, but when housed within Elliot Brown’s shock absorption system, it is truly a workhorse made for tool watches. I’ll touch on accuracy later in the review.
The Abuse
Being in a combat MOS in the military, I am no stranger to being outdoors in all conditions and relying on a timepiece for strict timehacks. The day following the unboxing I went into training for a 10 day field op. Bottom line, the Holton just performs. From going cyclic on a gun, to crawling on hands and knees through a muddy trench, this thing powered through when I honestly believe most watches would have failed, whether that be legibility or truly breaking. Coming out of the field for a week-long reset before heading back, there was no doubt in my mind that the Holton would be back on the wrist again. During these field events, the watch has seen rain, sun, snow, mud, the doors and panels on various armored vehicles; It has not slowed down. The PVD coating is an armor of its own.
When I’m not in the field, the Holton still has not left my wrist. I’ve brought it on multiple hikes and backpacking/camping trips. It’s seen all of the weather during field ops, but how will it hold up to the same at 10,000+ feet of elevation? If you’re saying like a champ, you’d be correct. During temperature and elevation changes, I have not noticed any fogging or vapor accumulation in the case. My specific SBWC Holton Auto GMT was the first one to reach over 14,000ft, for sure on land by foot, but maybe in general. Unless one of you sketchy fliers beat me to it! It has since been exposed to multiple day experiences of over 2,000ft changes of elevation per day. This thing will not stop. Elliot Brown has brought their outdoor adventuring expertise to the table and proposed the question, “Who/what can break this thing?” I mean come on, it survived being blown up…3 times!!
Now I’m not saying I have the most demanding job or hobbies, or even the most physically demanding on a watch. However, throughout anything I have put it through so far, this watch has taken it on the chin and kept on rolling. Over the last 31 days, of all elements at anywhere from 6,300-14,000+ feet of elevation, this watch has gained a total of 1 minute and 30 seconds. That is an average of 2.9sec/day. Absolutely incredible for a movement in a watch not only at this price point, but in my eyes a very acceptable level of accuracy at any price point.
Elliot Brown, you have sold me in every way possible; your story, your philosophy, and especially your product. I will continue to beat the shit out of this piece between work and play as much as I can.
